Final conclusion about this country: 1) Tanzania is certainly one of the easiest African countries to travel because tourism here is big. Apart from the ferry port in Dar Es Salaam and areas crowded with harassing street touts, I’d also say it is relatively safe and no problem for a single woman. 2) Unfortunately, Tanzania is also one of the most expensive countries in the region, at least with regards to safari activities and accommodation. Some places are clearly exceeding a backpacker’s budget but they are usually worth the extra money! 3) The ultimate Africa experience a safari in the Serengeti during the time of migration will remain one of the most precious memories of my life. 4) Don’t try to take a picture of Maasai warriors at Ngorongoro or be prepared to pay 5000 Tanzanian Shilling for a photo! 5) Zanzibar’s beaches are the closest place to paradise I have ever been... 6) Their stable democracy, peaceful coexistence between different ethnic groups, foreign investment and a fast growing economy caused former President Bill Clinton to name Tanzania the “Switzerland of Africa” although I found at least three other countries who claim that nickname for themselves... 7) Early June turned out to be a perfect time for visiting Tanzania: the weather is moderate, temperatures are comfortable and the migration was in full swing. |

8) Do not drink before going to bed while being on camping safari in the Serengeti!!! 9) Did you know that 1998 marked the year of Zanzibar’s first traffic light? 10) By now, I am pretty good in estimating weights around 20kg and can tell the difference of a single kilogram amazingly well! |
